THE PANGEA PROJECT supports projects which have the potential for making a lasting contribution to sustainable tourism development. |
We help to promote tourism initiatives on a small scale which are likely to generate incentives that are compatible with ecologically responsible behaviour. This includes all kind of services based around tourism such as jungle or boat trips which are suitable to add jobs to the local economy on the basis of a functioning ecosystem.
Furthermore we are convinced that preserving the self-esteem and enhancing the tourism visibility of minorities is an integral part to making a durable contribution to tourism development. We therefore support the promotion of cultural activities such as music work shops, concerts and exhibitions which help to reinforce the identity of local populations.
Projects supported by THE PANGEA PROJECT originate from the local level. Wherever possible, we work in close cooperation with a local NGO.

Project Guidelines
Local roots: Initiatives should arise from local communities or interest groups and preserve local particularities, the natural environment, and local character.
Environmental responsibility: The environmental cost to the community should be minimised. We encourage initiatives that aim at preserving and enhancing the integrity of a functioning eco-system.
Local benefits: Projects should be locally managed and owned and increase knowledge through capacity building. Their economic or cultural benefits should spread around the community creating demand for local goods and services or enhancing self-esteem and tourism visibility of the local culture(s).
Quality and safety: Quality should be given a greater priority than visitor numbers. All necessary safety standards should be implemented.
